What we do

Our information center answers questions about local, state, and federal regulatory requirements. If they don't have the answer you need, they will connect you with the correct government contact who does.

Our consultants provide regulatory services. They work in collaboration with agency partners and can help you identify which environmental permits and approvals may apply to your project.

Our consultants also partner with other government regulatory agencies on strategic initiatives, such as the Joint Aquatic Resources Permit Application (JARPA) form, permit timeliness reporting, the effects of significant legislative rule implementation, and complying with the requirements of the Regulatory Fairness Act.

In addition, our consultants provide business services and support relating to permitting and regulatory issues for small businesses.

We also develop technologies to better assist you.

Our mission

We provide people and businesses with information and resources to help them meet regulatory requirements and save time, money, and frustration.

Our vision

We aspire to be the State's most customer-focused organization and the first-place customers contact when needing assistance.

Our values

  • Innovation
  • Integrity

Our history

In 2002, the Washington State Legislature created the Office of Permit Assistance (RCW 43.42) within the Governor's Office.

In 2003, the Legislature changed the name to Office of Regulatory Assistance and expanded its duties to include small business assistance and the full range of regulatory issues.

In 2005, Governor Gregoire expanded the office in support of her Executive Order 06-02 on Regulatory Improvement.

In 2013, Governor Inslee renamed the office to include the word Innovation to reflect his interest in pursuing innovative solutions.
